Senior Data Engineer – 12 Month Fixed Term Contract – $200,000 - Proactive leader - Strong stakeholder management - Set the agenda!
Tech and Data People are working with a company who are recognised as being an employer of choice for Victoria. With an enviable culture, and working environment, we are looking for a Senior Data Engineer on a 12 month fixed term contract paying $200,000 - working in a hybrid capacity based in Melbourne. We are looking for candidates with strong Data Engineering experience and exposure to a Data Governance environment or Risk environment. (Or similar). We’re looking for someone with real drive, a proactive leader who is confident engaging with the business, excels in stakeholder management, and can set the agenda rather than simply follow a prescribed set of tasks.
Responsibilities
The Senior Data Engineer will play a key role in designing, developing, and delivering the implementation of a data quality platform, ensuring it is robust, scalable, and aligned with organisational data quality objectives.
- Design, build, and deploy robust data quality checks and monitoring pipelines using the selected platform within AWS cloud services.
- Develop and maintain Python-based automation scripts to support integration and scaling across diverse data sources.
- Collaborate with Data Analysts, Engineers, and Governance teams to define and implement data quality rules and expectations.
- Ensure seamless integration with AWS-native tools such as S3, Glue, Redshift, and Lambda.
- Contribute to documentation, testing, and user training to support adoption and long-term maintainability.
About You
You are a hands-on Data Engineer with a strong background in Python development and experience working in cloud-native environments, particularly AWS. You will also have some of the following competencies:
- Tertiary qualification in computer science, information technology, business systems, or equivalent significant practical experience.
- Extensive experience in building data engineering pipelines and exposure to cloud data platforms (strong proficiency in Python development is essential).
- Knowledge of cloud data systems and products, and experience delivering cloud data projects (preferably AWS).
- Proven experience working with data cataloging platforms, ideally Alation, to drive data governance, discoverability, and collaboration across enterprise data assets.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
